In July of 2017, 80-year-old US Senator John McCain underwent a surgery to remove a blood clot above his left eye at the Mayo Clinic Hospital in Phoenix, Arizona. The surgery was largely successful, but only five days after, doctors had a startling revelation.
Results from the tests confirmed that the Senator has glioblastoma, a very aggressive type of brain tumor, added to the fact that he had to undergo serious treatment, including radiotherapy and chemotherapy. In addition, doctors said that McCain was only guaranteed 14 months to live post-surgery.
John McCain is an American hero & one of the bravest fighters I’ve ever known. Cancer doesn’t know what it’s up against. Give it hell, John.

But this is not the first time McCain has been diagnosed with cancer. The Vietnam vet has a history of cancer and despite the often grave diagnosis, he has always come out a survivor. And this time is no different.

This was shocking news to everyone, including his daughter, Meghan McCain. She shared this post on Twitter during her father’s recovery:

By the end of July 2017, and barely two weeks after his surgery, Senator McCain was back to work. And his first action was to cast a vote allowing the Senate consider a bill to replace Obamacare.
Throughout the period he was in the hospital and after, the Senator received a lot of support from family members as well as members of the government.
His children were very happy with his speedy recovery
Meghan, who is also a co-host on The View, while speaking on the Late Show expressed her joy at Senator McCain’s speedy recovery.
Despite the terrifying diagnosis, she affirmed that her father would pull through as always.
Jack McCain, the Senator’s son, speaking with @azcentral was also enthusiastic about his father’s recovery. According to him, his father is a fighter and cancer is the least issue that bothers him.

The diagnosis he has is not a good one, but of all the things that have happened in this man’s life, of all the times his life could have ended, in the ways it could have ended, this is by far one of the least threats to him, and that’s kind of how he views it.
Jack also serves in the military, and he says he always has a lot to talk about with his father. McCain and his son get to talk on a daily basis, and the Senator remains a big part of his children’s lives. Earlier in June, he attended the wedding of his son Jack to Renee Swift.
He was also present at son Jimmy’s wedding in 2016.
It has been a rollercoaster ride for the Senator, but some parts have been very pleasant. Recently, he opened up about his joy on seeing his daughter Meghan get married to Ben Domenech. The wedding took place on Nov 21 at the family ranch in Cornville, Arizona.
The thing in life you want more than anything else is for your kids to be happy. And I’m confident that she will be. It was really a wonderful day.
Following McCain’s cancer diagnosis in 2016, Meghan and Domenech decided to move the wedding backward to ensure that the Senator is able to attend. And this he did, despite his fracture, which was a result of steroid treatment he is still undergoing.
Senator McCain has survived three previous cancer diagnosis of melanoma. We all wish him a speedy recovery and the best of health.
