Before her marriage to Prince Charles, the Duchess of Cornwall was married. At 26, the then Camilla Shand got married to Andrew Parker-Bowles.
She first met her husband in late 1960 through Andrew’s younger brother, Simon Andrew Parker-Bowles. Andrew was a young Guards officer and a lieutenant in the Blues Royals.
However, their relationship was hardly stable. They dated on and off for several years until 1970 when Andrew began dating Princess Anne, the daughter of Queen Elizabeth I.
By 1973, Camilla and Andrew were back together and announced their engagement the same year. The wedding took place at the Guard’s Chapel in Wellington Barracks, on July 4, 1973.
Hundreds of guests were invited to the ceremony and at the time, it was considered the “society wedding of the year.” Members of the royal family, including the Queen and even Princess Anne, attended.
