As it was recently revealed, Barbara Bush is currently in a critical health condition. She is battling congestive heart failure and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Former First Lady refused to receive any further medical treatment and returned home for the hospice care.
Many public figures and Bush family’s close friends are sharing their support for Barbara. One of her sons Neil discussed his mother’s condition.
As my mom has become more and more frail…we have quality time and we’re sharing this quality time with other family members and friends that come by to read.
Neil Bush said that his mother is unable to walk anymore. But she is still able to enjoy reading, which was the focus of her career for many years. She started the Barbara Bush Literacy Foundation to battle illiteracy. Interestingly, it was Neil who inspired the former First Lady to get involved with this social issue.
Neil was suffering from dyslexia as a child, and Barbara made it her mission to get him better. He revealed that she would read to him and his siblings all the time. Now, he does the same for his children and grandchildren.
As a way of solace, Neil Bush is currently re-reading Barbara’s memoir. He said it’s giving him a new appreciation for her experiences. “And to read the story of their amazing life together has been a remarkable blessing to me personally as their son,” he said.
